Confetti, Cupcakes and Sprinkles Galore!
And, we're back! After a long break away, we're ready to get back, sharing our experiences of sewing and baking and everyday shenanigans as we attempt to celebrate life! We are so glad you've joined us and thanks for following along!
Today, it's all about the sprinkles! Loads and loads of sprinkles...
It all begins with this delicious fabric I happened upon at our local fabric store here in Berkeley. (Coincidentally, this store is THE Best for fun and beautiful fabrics!)

Instantly, it transported me back to my childhood and the many Sunday morning trips to the Mexican bakery, or the panaderia, down the street from our house. My dad used to wake up early Sunday mornings and head to El Aguila bakery. He'd come back bearing gifts -- a dozen hot tamales and a bag bursting with pan dulce. My brother and I loved it! We'd be so excited looking through the bag of treats, picking out our favorites. Hands down, mine was the giant sprinkles cookie, or la galleta de grajea. I loved the colorful and subtle crunchiness of the nonpareils combined with the sweetness of the butter cookie. Yum.
Well, after seeing this fabric, I had to have a cookie. Except, our panaderia's galleta was not quite what I had in mind.
The sprinkles were ALL WRONG.
I had no other choice than to take matters into my own hands and make our own galletas.
Alas, Smitten Kitchen's confetti cookie recipe to the rescue!
Here is the dough, rolled into "sprinkle balls" (my 6-year-old loved this!), then smashed down with a glass before baking... |

Let me tell you, this recipe is a keeper and cream cheese is the secret weapon. Tender, moist and absolutely delicious--exactly what I hoped for in a sugar cookie. My Mexican cookie craving has been satisfied and a new recipe has been added to the arsenal. Win, win.
And, as for the fabric -- check out our Cuter Than a Cupcake Dress. It's available in sizes 12/18 months up to size 12.
